A Fresh Mentality is Generating a New Interest in Antiques and Collectibles.

AUTUMN AUCTION REPORT

In November 2023 Morris Marshall & Poole and Welshpool Livestock Sales held an online sale of antiques and collectibles. A total of 397 items were entered, procured from local residences and collectors.

The auction was held on 'the-saleroom.com' running from the 2nd of November through to the 8th of November 2023. The auction was certainly a success, attracting a large number of buyers from both local and national regions, as well as our regular patrons.

Tony Evans, a Partner at Morris Marshall & Poole and Welshpool Livestock Sales, noted that “there is a renewed interest in high-quality furniture and collectables. The growing concern for environmental sustainability has opened up a different potential new market for antiques which has been reflected in our sales”

NOTEWORTHY ITEMS THAT GAINED CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION:

Edwardian Brass Fender: The final bid for this item amounted to £1200.

Early 19th Century Oak Turners Corner Chair - £580.

Weiss London Dirk: The bidding for this item concluded at £490.

Wedgwood India Dinner and Coffee Service set- £410.

HIGH INTEREST IN SILVER AND GOLD JEWELLERY PERSISTS

The demand for silver and gold jewellery continues, with impressive results. During the auction, a silver and turquoise dress ring fetched £220, while a gold brooch with inset turquoise sold for £100.

ARTWORK AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

The auction showcased various artwork, including oil paintings and pencil drawings. Among the standout pieces were a pair of shooting prints, which had a guide price of £40-£60 but sold for an impressive £210. Additionally, a Cunard White Star poster with a guide price of £30-£50 fetched an outstanding £290.

From April 11th to 17th 2024, we'll be hosting our Spring Auction. While the auction will be online, a viewing day will be held at Welshpool Livestock Sales in Buttington Cross for potential bidders to preview items.
