Gated residential development is attracting families back into Shrewsbury town centre

A multi-million pound gated residential development in Shrewsbury is attracting families back to live in the town centre, according to one of the town’s property specialists.

Tudor Gate, ShrewsburyWhile most of the town’s recent new housing developments have been on the periphery of Shrewsbury, Tudor Gate in Copthorne Road is close to the town centre and proving popular among families wanting to live in a central location.

The gated development of 14 luxury homes is about to be completed by developers Waterman, who have just five remaining properties for sale following demand.

“The family housing market is very much alive in Shrewsbury, but there has been a trend over the past decade or so for people to move out to the periphery of the town or even into neighbouring communities,” said Martin Moore of estate agents Morris, Marshall and Poole.

“We’re seeing a lot of interest from families wanting to move into a central location to be close to the great amenities we have in Shrewsbury, but such properties are often snapped up quickly due to demand.

“Nine of the properties at Tudor Gate have already been sold and demand continues for the last five. It’s a combination of the quality development, location and the gated element, which adds security to homeowners.”

He said the gated element was one of the first in Shrewsbury on such a large development and was proving attractive to buyers.

“For family’s it’s about the added security. While Shrewsbury is one of the safest towns to live and work in, knowing you have that added layer to allow access is important, particularly for families with young children.”

Properties at the development range from £475,000 to £525,000, for up to six bedrooms, although the developers say prices for the remaining properties are likely to increase in the new year.

Tudor Gate, ShrewsburyHassan Sayani of developers Waterman said: “There’s definitely a move for families to return to town centres to live and our luxury development is demonstrating that.

"Shrewsbury has some of the best amenities you could want, from the theatre to becoming a culinary centre in the Midlands.

“With these literally on your doorstep there’s no need to travel anywhere and with some of the best schools in the area it’s a perfect choice for families.”
