Llanfyllin’s Postmistress for the past 11 years is preparing to deal with her last mailbag after putting the business up for sale.
Llanfyllin Post Office has operated for at least the past 70 years at its current location at 31 High Street in the market town and is currently run by Elvina McCarthy and husband Robert.
In addition to the Post Office, the couple run a retail business selling stationery, gifts, Welsh designer t-shirts, hoodies, jewellery and other products. But they now want to retire, handing the retail and five bedroom property on to someone else.
“We’ve been running the Post Office for 11 years and decided it’s time to move on. It’s been the hub of Llanfyllin for many years and we’ve enjoyed our time helping people with their banking and postal requirements etc, as well as running our own shop,” said Elvina.
“The property provides so many opportunities for the new owner and with it being central within the town, the possibilities are endless. It’s a real hub in the heart of the town and a great place to live as well.”
The Grade II listed property spread over five floors comes with 5/6 bedrooms and two basement rooms. The original sorting office room still exists in the basement, providing another commercial opportunity within the property.
Estate and land agents Morris, Marshall and Poole are dealing with the sale.
“Llanfyllin is a busy market town and we’re expecting a lot of interest in the property,” said Rob Hudson, Partner at MMP.
“The Post Office remains operational at the property and while it could transfer as part of the sale, subject to Post Office Limited’s approval, it could be purchased for different commercial or retail uses, providing an ideal business opportunity for someone in what is a busy market town.”
The property and business are on the market for £295,000. Details about the property can be found at here or by calling the agents at their Welshpool office on 01938 554818.
