A Shropshire housing developer has offered to sell half of its homes on a rural housing estate at discount to local people even though local planners are not forcing it to.
Keri Jennings of Primesave Properties Ltd has offered five of its 10 homes at Ashbrook Meadow in Kinnerley, near Oswestry to local people with a £5,000 discount and no conditions.
Keri is working with property and estate agents Morris, Marshall and Poole to market the development but said it was important to offer local people an opportunity to buy some of the homes at a discount.
“I was born and raised in Shropshire and as a local housing developer I feel it’s important to work with local communities when creating new homes in the county and particularly rural neighbourhoods,” said Keri.
“There is only one property on the development with an affordable housing planning condition attached to it and we’ve decided to provide further properties with a £5,000 discount to people who can prove they have local connections.
“There won’t be any conditions attached to these properties, but hopefully it’ll provide an opportunity for some local people to purchase a home they might not have considered before.”
Homes on the development range from two bedroom semi-detached at £125,000 to four bedroom detached properties at £249,950 and 289,000. But five three bedroom detached homes at £189,950 are being offered with the £5,000 discount.
Martin Moore of Morris, Marshall and Poole’s Shrewsbury office said: “There is a need for good quality homes in our rural communities. Keri is a local business woman who understands this and has embarked on trying to find a way of opening up the property market to the local community.
“The properties being offered at a discount are a way for local people to step up the property ladder. It’s credit to Keri and Primesave to take this step and we’re already seeing interest from people looking to take advantage of this local offer.”
Previous Shropshire developments undertaken by Primesave have all been sold off plan and in one case before the ground was broken. These included Fox Close at Bayston Hill, Meole Orchard at Meole in Shrewsbury and Elson Court in Ellesmere.

Anyone looking to take up the discount offer will have to demonstrate their local connection through residence, birth, work or relatives.
