The building that housed Welshpool Social Club for nearly 50 years is to be auction off later this month.

The building that housed Welshpool Social Club for nearly 50 years is to be auctioned later this month.

The club, which opened in the 1960s and closed in 2015, was a popular entertainment hub in the town. The building off Brook Street contains a large bar, function room with stage, snooker room, cellar and parking.

With a guide price of £80,000, it is among eight properties from throughout Mid Wales and Shropshire being sold by estate agents and property surveyors, Morris Marshall and Poole at its Spring Property Auction on 27 April.

“TWelshpool Social Clubhe social club was a hive of activity in the town for nearly 50 years. The sale of the property provides an opportunity for someone to consider a commercial business at the site or to seek planning permission for change of use,” said Rob Hudson, a partner at MMP.

The auction, which will be held at Welshpool Livestock Sales, includes a range of properties and land.

A former stables and garage along the Montgomery Canal at Revel, near Berriew, has a guide price of £15,000, while 7.82 acres of land south of Trewern House at Trewern near Welshpool has a guide price of £65,000.

“The auction is full of some good property investments or someone seeking an opportunity for a project,” added Mr Hudson.

A two-bedroom cottage requiring improvement and modernisation at Talerddig near Llanbrynmair has a guide price of between £40,000 and £50,000, while a terraced cottage at Penhelig in Aberdyfi with stunning views over the Dyfi Estuary has a guide price of £129,950.

Other property includes a three-bedroom property at Trefonen, Oswestry with a guide price of £155,000; five lock-up garages and a yard in Salop Road, Welshpool with a guide price of £20,000 and a two-bedroom property at Sarnau, near Llanymynech at £125,000.

“Hen Dafarn at Sarnau is ripe for renovation or redevelopment,” added Rob. “It’s currently a two bedroom property with a dilapidated outbuilding, but has a great deal of potential and could be a good buy for someone looking to invest or renovate. It could also be a blueprint for a new project, subject to planning permission.”

The auction takes place at 2pm on Thursday, 27 April at Welshpool Livestock Sales, Buttington Cross.
